Dog Training Classes

Using modern Positive Reinforcement methods, we help you motivate your dog to do what you need them to, avoiding punishment and coercion. This means that both you and your dog gain from the training, which fosters mutual trust, and really helps strengthen you bond.

Whats New:

From Basic Training to Behavioural Issues to Socialisation or just Pure Fun, our dog training classes are just the ticket!

Using modern Positive Reinforcement methods, we help you motivate your dog to do what you need them to, avoiding punishment and coercion. This means that both you and your dog gain from the training, which fosters mutual trust, and really helps strengthen you bond. Apart from this, it’s really Good Fun! You hear the word “Obedient” a lot in dog training, we prefer to use “Enthusiastic/Eager/Keen”. Of course, when dogs don’t do what we want, it can be very inconvenient, or even dangerous, but as Positive Reinforcement trainers, we don’t want dogs to do what we want through fear of a consequence, but because they WANT to!

We look to prevent/solve all the common problems dog owners experience – things that are problems to us humans, but are generally just dogs following their natural instincts, rather than being “naughty”. We also cover more advanced training like agility, trick training etc. Dogs, like us, need mental exercise and stimulation, and focusing their mind on tasks that we set, apart from being just plain fun, can use up energy as effectively as physical exercise. A well stimulated dog will not feel the need to entertain itself, in ways we often find a nuisance! As you will see if you come to our classes, your dog will be tired afterwards, and may even sleep for the rest of the day!

Our classes are all held outside, giving the dogs plenty of space should they need it. Dogs trained inside will often, when outside “forget” their training. This is because dogs are very contextual in the way they learn, so they may work really eagerly with you indoors, but take them outside where there are lots of interesting smells and other distractions, and it’s like starting the training again! So we aim to replicate the situations you are going to need your dog to play your game, by effectively adding the distractions from the get go by training outside.

Come along , have some fun and there is even a lovely little cafe, for a well earned cup of tea and a slice of cake!
